Replacing vaporizer coils is a natural part of keeping up your vaping habit. Old coils are known to create bad flavors that detract from the joy of vaping in the first place. For many new vapers, getting in the habit of changing coils seems strange at first, especially if you’re not sure how long a vape coil is supposed to last between replacements. Here’s what you need to know about coils and their lifespans.

How Long do Vape Coils Last?

The simple answer is that it all depends on how you are using them. If you just want a general timeframe, we could say that most vape coils last between one and two weeks depending on how much vaping you do. For very heavy vapers, a coil may only last five days at first because it takes a few days to get used to the feeling of vaping in general. If you are on a budget, plan on changing your vape coil at least every two weeks.

In general, coils last seven to 10 days, but that range will vary depending on your usage and experience. The more practice you have, the easier it will be to identify the signs of a bad coil so you can fix it before your e-liquid is tarnished.

How to Extend Coil Lifespan

If you feel like you have to change your coils too often, there are some simple steps you can take to extend their life. For instance, turning your device down to a slightly lower wattage can help. Just because your device says it is capable of 200W doesn’t mean you have to run it that way all the time. Higher wattage vaping tends to produce more residue from your e-liquid that builds up on the coils and causes them to burn out. Turning the power down means that your coils will do a better job of vaporizing the liquid completely and produce less gunk in your system. You may also want to try changing the type of coil you are using. Some wire types made for temperature control require higher maintenance than regular Kanthal coils. Another popular option is Clapton coils.

Another critical factor is whether or not you allow your coil to have a dry hit. Dry hits can damage the longevity of your coils. As a new vaper, it is important to always keep an eye on your tank and wick to make sure there is plenty of liquid present for your coils to vaporize. If you are letting your tank run too low, your coils could be burning away at the dry wick instead. This is a costly mistake that you will want to avoid.
